Using the word advice

The word advice is an uncountable noun. Uncountable nouns do not have plural forms. They cannot be used with the articles a/an.
He gave me some advice. (NOT He gave me an advice.) (NOT He gave me advices.)
Incorrect: Let me give you an advice.
Correct: Let me give you some advice.
Incorrect: She was always there to give great advices.
Correct: She was always there to give great advice.
To refer to a single item of advice, you can use the expression ‘a piece of advice’, ‘a word of advice’ or ‘a bit of advice’. However, these expressions are not very common. Advice is mainly used on its own.
If you are worried about your symptoms, contact your doctor for advice.
The expression some advice is very common.
I really need some advice.
Don’t confuse advice and advise. Advice is a noun whereas advise is a verb.
Incorrect: I would advice you to quit smoking.
Correct: I would advise you to quit smoking.
Ways of giving advice
In English, we use several different expressions to give advice.
Examples are:
You should act more responsibly.
You ought to consult a doctor.
If I were you, I wouldn’t let this happen.
Why don’t you consult a doctor?
It is a good idea to invest in real estate.
All of these expressions are used when giving friendly advice.
The expression you’d (= you had) better is used to give strong advice.
You’d better consult a doctor.
Take it from me
This expression is used when you are giving advice based on your own experience.
Take it from me, it isn’t worth buying a cheap laptop.
DIALOG GIVING ADVICE

Mr.adhi is complaining about his headache and Nurse Widhi is giving her advice.

Nurse Widhi                             : Good morning Mr. Adhi, introduce my name nurse Widhi,
Mr Adhi                                    : Good morning Nurse Widhi, I’m fine.
Nurse Widhi                             : Apparently you’re thinking about something? If I may know what you think?
Mr. Adhi                                   : I’m afraid my headaches will be getting worse, nurse.

Mr. Adhi                                   : No, I haven’t. because I have not had breakfast, nurse.
Nurse Widhi                             : You should immediately eat breakfast, so you can take medication, by taking medicine regularly, I’m sure you will be better soon.
Mr. Adhi                                   : Ok, I will do it now, thanks for you suggestion.
Nurse Widhi                             : You are welcome, later today I will be back again to see your condition. The next time you need help just find me in a nursing.

SUGGESTION EXPRESSION

Suggestion Expression is the statement for giving advice to make someone better next time. For example, parents suggest to their child, friend advises to other friend or to us. It released while someone has got bad condition or certain occasion.

One Day Jesicca lost her money in her bag,she look so sad and Barbara come.

1. Complaining

·         To express feelings of pain, dissatisfaction, or resentment.
·         To make a formal accusation or bring a formal charge.
A complaint is…
Complaints are expressions of "displeasure or annoyance" in response to an action that is seen by the speaker as unfavorable.
Making a complaint:

2. Giving Instruction

     a.Definition
       Giving instruction is an expression for give or ask somebody to do something that we want.
·                         The tense used in giving instruction is simple present.
·                         Giving instruction is releveance with procedure text
    b. Giving instruction are:

•      Verb (+ O).
 e.g:Watch out, come here, etc.
•      Please + V (+ O).
         e.g:Please clean your room.
•      V (+ O) + Please.
         e.g:Wash this towel, please.

•      Don’t + V (+ O).
e.g:Don’t close it!
•      Don’t + V (+ O) + Please.
e.g:Don’t be noise,please.
•      Would you mind not + V-ing (+ O).

Modals for Expressing Ability
Modals can be used to express ability.
Can, could, and be able to are used to express ability.
Can is used to show physical ability including the five sense: see, hear, feel, smell, taste.
  • I can sing. I can sing a song for you!
  • I can feel I can feel happy when you tell me a joke.
  • I like to touch my sweater. It has a wonderful texture.
Can is used to express a skill that requires training or practice.
  • He can play the piano.
  • She can play chess.
  • They can sing arias.
Can is used to express an opportunity.
  • I can buy a new suit.
  • You can buy a television set.
  • We can read a book together.
Can is used to give permission in casual situations. May is used to give permission in formal situations.
  • He can go to the park by himself.
  • She can drive the car to school.
  • You can leave as soon as you finish answering your test
  • You can go without me if you are in a hurry.
Be able to can be used instead of can in either the past or the present or will + be able to for the future.
  • I wasn't able to go to the party because I had to work.
  • She was not able to go to work because she was sick.
  • We are able to take care of ourselves.
Cannot and can't are both negative forms of can.
  • Most birds cannot swim.
  • Most fish cannot fly.
Could is the past form of can. The negative form is could not or couldn't.
  • I couldn't go to the party because I had to work.
  • She could not go to work because she was sick.

A: Can you play the guitar?
B: Yes, but not very well.
A: Can Cyntia ride a bike?
B: No, she can’t. He’s too young.
A: Does Budi speak German?
B: Yes, he speaks very well.
A: Does Ricky sing?
B: Not really. He has no talent in that area.

Expressions of Possibilities
Possibility is used when we are talking about the future, we often don’t really know what will happen.
